Billiards
Our core business
What does the name ”Biljard” mean?
”Biljard” – billiards – is an umbrella term for a number of different games such as carom, snooker and pool.
A carom table has no pockets.
A full-size snooker table has 6 pockets and measures 12 feet.
A full-size pool table has 6 pockets, measures 9 feet, and is today the most popular type of billiards table.
The origins of billiards
The game developed from a lawn game similar to croquet, played some time in the 15th century in northern Europe and probably in France. It moved indoors onto a wooden table covered with green cloth to imitate grass, with a simple rail placed around the edges. It was a game for royalty and the nobility. From the 17th to the 20th century, billiard balls were made of ivory. The billiards we know today took shape in England during the 18th century, a period when both cues and tables acquired forms close to those used now. In Sweden, the Swedish Billiards Federation was founded in Gothenburg in 1940.
Why do people love playing billiards?
Billiards is the pub's answer to yoga. Over a single game players walk around the table countless times, drawing on physical coordination, balance and flexibility. Beyond the physical benefits of the activity itself, the game also fosters social interaction, with players talking, competing in a friendly spirit and forming social bonds.
The health benefits of playing billiards
Improves focus and concentration:
It is a strategy-based sport that demands critical thinking and anticipating your opponent's moves, holding focus and concentration to plan the shot, aim carefully and predict how the balls will travel.
Playing billiards regularly can help older players sharpen their cognitive skills and mental acuity.
Our pool tables
From the outset we invested in the best-value pool tables on the market at the time, the ”Dynamic III”, which we have improved ourselves with extra bracing for stability and durability.
We are proud to house eight pool tables, all fitted with digital scoreboards that are available to everyone and connected to our account on Cuescore.com, an online tournament system that we use for our tournaments.
We carry out all maintenance on our tables ourselves, including re-clothing, so we can be sure everything stays in tip-top condition.
